Que tu m’aimais encore, me l’a t’on vraiment dit…

Day 6: Stella
( Jim Campilongo - American Hips LP - 2003 )
Stella came on a midnight train Travelled through a drizzlin rain I paced for hours by the station door How I did pine as I waited for her
A thumb on the bass A brush on the drum A bow on the fiddle We’ll play all night long Play all night by the firelight Until the break on dawn
Slow motion and the train stops short She’s under his arms in her vinyl coat A dream came true when I tucked her ‘neath mine I played her like a songbird divine
A thumb on the bass A brush on the drum A bow on the fiddle We played all night long Played all night by the firelight Until the break of dawn That night I played for Stella I sang this song
Day 5: Who’d Have Known? By Lily Allen
Who’d Of Known
It’s 5 o’clock in the morning Conversation got boring You said you’re going to bed soon So I snuck off to your bedroom And I thought I’d just wait there Til I heard you come up the stairs I pretended I was sleeping And I was hoping you would creep in With me
You put your arm around my shoulder It was as if the room got colder We moved closer in together And started talking bout the weather Said tomorrow would be fun We can watch A Place In The Sun I didn’t know where this was going When you kissed me
Are you mine? Are you mine? Cause I stay here all the time Watching telly, drinking wine Who’da known, who’da known When you flash up on my phone I’d no longer feel alone No longer feel alone
I haven’t left here for days now And I’m becoming amazed how You’re quite affectionate in public In fact, your friend said it made her feel sick And even though it’s moving forward There’s just the right amount of awkward And today you accidentally Called me baby
Are you mine? Are you mine? Cause I stay here all the time Watching telly, drinking wine Who’da known, who’da known When you flash up on my phone I’d no longer feel alone
Let’s just stay Let’s just stay I wanna lie in bed all day We’ll be laughing all the way Told your friends They all know We exist but we’re taking it slow Now let’s just see how we go Now let’s see how we go
Let’s just stay Let’s just stay I wanna lie in bed all day We’ll be laughing all the way Told your friends They all know We exist but we’re taking it slow Now let’s just see how we go Now let’s see how we go
Day 4: “By Your Side?” By Sade
You think I’d leave your side baby? You know me better than that You think I’d leave down when your down on your knees? I wouldn’t do that
I’ll do you right when your wrong I——-ohhh, ohhh
If only you could see into me
oh, when your cold I’ll be there to hold you tight to me When your on the outside baby and you can’t get in I will show you, your so much better than you know When your lost, when your alone and you can’t get back again I will find you darling I’ll bring you home
If you want to cry I am here to dry your eyes and in no time you’ll be fine
You think I’d leave your side baby You know me better than that You think I’d leave you down when your down on your knees I wouldn’t do that
I’ll do you right when your wrong I——-I, ohhhh, ohhh
If only you could see into me
Oh when your cold I’ll be there To hold you tight to me Oh when your alone I’ll be there by your side baby [repeat 1x]
These chords are too damn hard for me. Think rudimentary guitar, then crank that down a few notches, and that's about the level I am at. I can't make this sound good. Moving over to the keyboard. So happy I now have that option. The vocals are sounding pretty good though. :-)

Day 3: “Till there was you” by Meredith Willson, performed by Barbara Cook in the original Broadway recording of The Music Man (1957) and later performed by the Beatles (1964). I’ve included the Beatles version here because this is the one I fell in love with as a kid, riding in my parents’ red volvo station wagon, listening to a cassette tape dub of my mom’s old (scratched) vinyls. (I always sang it with a skip in the lyrics because of that scratch!).
You know how childhood memories tend to be amazing or or awful? Listening to this song as a kid falls into the amazing category. Warm summer days, singing along to the Beatles, Dylan and Guys and Dolls in the car with my sister and mom, swimming pools… and that exalted calm you can only feel as a kid after a day of carelessly exhausting every every muscle in your body.
3rd Song: “Till There Was You”
There were bells on a hill But I never heard them ringing No, I never heard them at all Till there was you
There were birds in the sky But I never saw them winging No, I never saw them at all Till there was you
Then there was music and wonderful roses they tell me in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew
There was love all around But I never heard it singing No I never heard it at all Till there was you
Then there was music and wonderful roses they tell me in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew
There was love all around But I never heard it singing No, I never heard it at all Till there was you Till there was you
Day two. Swamped at work and no time to learn this right now.
I love this song. It makes me think of my good friend, Johnna. We were chatting over IM the night of the inauguration last year—I had just come home after a long day at work and felt very sad to not be in D.C. with many of my colleagues and friends. But it was freezing outside, I had a better view of the performances than anyone there, and I had Johnna.
I got home just in time to catch Shakira performing this song at the neighborhood ball. I thought she was adorable (nevermind her her throaty vocal style—she can still belt it and she’s sexy as hell and she’s Colombian performing at the headlining US presidential inaugural ball). I loved the song and didn’t realize it was Van Morrison’s until Johnna told me.
Day 2: “Bright Side of the Road” by Van Morrison
From the dark end of the street, baby To the bright side of the road We’ll be lovers, lovers once again On the bright side of the road
Little baby take my hand You can help me share this load From the dark end of the street To the bright side of the road
And into this life we’re born Baby, sometimes we don’t know why And it goes by so, oh so fast It’s like the twinkling of an eye
Let’s enjoy it while we can Little darlin’ come along Take my hand into that sunny land On the bright side of the road
Yeah, into this life we’re born Sometimes we don’t know why It seems to go by so terribly fast In the the twinkling of an eye
Let’s enjoy it while we can Oh my lover come along From the dark end of the street To the bright side of the road
From the dark and lonely street To the bright side of the road We’ll be lovers once again On the bright side of the road
Yeah, put it down for me one more time
From the dark and lonely street To the bright side of the road We’ll be lovers, lovers once again On the bright side of the road
We’ll be lovers once again On the bright side of the road We’ll be lovers once again On the bright side of the road
Say it one more time again We’ll be lovers, lovers once again
